Aight, I somewhat resonate with the reasoning. It has been apparent for quite a while (we're talking at least the last three years) that Patrick's focus has shifted away from 1500 m and now that Nils is clearly in the way, perhaps going for the 1500 m in Calgary instead of perfecting his 5 and 10k is a risk he is not willing to take -- especially not now when his form seems to have finally crawled out of the dungeons. I'll give it to him, the reasoning is there and it is justified.
The Netherlands is now facing a dilemma of vesting all hopes with Wesly Dijs, who has shown the best time out of three (meaning, Roest, Blokkie and himself) in SLC, but currently he's 35 points below Roest and 31 below Blokkie, respectively. He will have to pull a really decent race, similar to the one in SLC, and to end up in the top-5 -- which still seems to be more realistic than having Patrick race a 1500 m with 5k in his legs just for the sake of securing a place.
But sending Dijs alone is also very risky, so Blokkie should follow for the sake of having this benefit of +31 points compared to Dijs, so the chances are greater, even if he ends up going for a mediocre race. I like Jan, I like him alot, but I also think he lacks the reasoning Patrick has. Frankly speaking, with no more 5k's for him and a pretty poor TP, I cant see any other reason to just hand over that sweet chance to experience the Games one last time to Jan. If he truly cares, he'll go to Canada. End of story.
