Van de weblog van Andrew Love: Dat worden dus nog leuke world cups. Dus niet meer 'alleen maar Nederland' dat zich 'kapot moet kwalificeren' maar de andere landen moeten in de aanloop van de OS ook volle bak mee...

Therefore during an Olympic year, the world cup seemed not as important, and often skaters & whole teams would skip parts of it, or train through it, building for the games. The ISU did not like this. So for the Vancouver games, they decided that each country will earn their start spots for the Olympics through performances in the 5 world cup events immediately before Vancouver. This makes the world cup leading up to the Olympics dreadfully important. Als ik het voorgaande bekijk betekent het dat een land pas na de laatste world cup wedstrijd voor de Spelen weet hoeveel deelnemers ze naar iedere afstand ze mogen sturen. Dit betekent dat Nederlandse deelnemers zich eerst op nationaal niveau moeten kwalificeren en daarna ook nog een keer op internationaal niveau. Dit betekent dat de nederlandse toppers drie keer in een seizoen moeten pieken. Ik weet niet of dit gunstig is voor de nederlandse schaatsers, maar het maakt de world cups wel interessanter
Ach................of de Nederlanders nu 3....4...5 of 6x per seizoen moeten toppen; we zijn het wel gewend. Is misschien zelfs wel in ons voordeel dat de ISU zo heeft besloten.
